Happy New Year!!

As if it is the end of 2014. This year has been a significantly big year for me as I created my blog and turned 16. However, 2014 did come with it's fair share of downs as well as ups.
For this post I wanted to focus solely on the future and what I would like to accomplish in 2015.

The first two goals are more school associated and revolve around my final year at secondary school/ first year of college. I would like to g
et at least 5 A*-Cs in my GCSEs. I am quite confident in that I will get at least five but hopefully I will get more. Also I want to get into a college I applied for. This year I applied for two colleges in my home town and hope to hear back from them and have a place there.

I didn't really want to set myself targets for my blog like get 200 followers; it didn't seem fair if by the end of next year, I didn't accomplish it. However, I am going to set skill based targets as skills are quite easy to improve on.

Improve my writing skills. I have been doing my blog now for nearly a year for the sole purpose of improving skills, being more confident and just as a hobby, but I still don't think my writing is amazing like other blogs I have read.
Improve my photography and editing skills. Next year I hope to study A Level Photography so I thought that this goal would be great as it would be very beneficial academically and in general. Also, my editing skills are the greatest, I just sit for ten minutes on Picmonkey changing the brightness and contrasts.

Favourite Albums 2014

Music plays a big part in my life as I listen to music every single day, guaranteed.  Since I dedicate a lot of my time to listening to music and creating a playlist, I thought I would do a round-up of my favourite albums of 2014.

I have always been a fan of Paloma Faith but never got a chance to see her live or anything like that, so I result to watching the live shows on Youtube. She released her new album, A Perfect Contradiction, this year and I have to say, it is great. My favourite songs off the album are all ones that she has released into the charts; Can't Rely on You, Trouble With My Baby and Only Love Can Hurt Like This.

Another favourite 2014 album of my mine is Sam Smith In The Lonely Hour. When he released one of his first songs, Money On My Mind, I hated him. He just seemed really annoying with his voice. However, I have been converted and I am now in love with him. My favourite songs are Stay With Me, I'm Not The Only One, I've Told You Now and Like I Can.

Ed Sheeran's X(pronounced multiply) is also a favourite of mine. Every song Ed has released this year has made me fall more and more in love with the album. It started with Sing, the Don't and now Thinking Out Loud which has, by far, one of the most beautiful music videos to coincide with the song.

My final favourite is George Ezra Wanted On Voyage. I love George's voice and his songs, they are so beautiful and draws me in. Some of my favourites off the album is Budapest, Blame It On Me, Barcelona and Benjamin Twine.

What Have I Learnt Through Blogging in 2014

2014 was a big year for me as it was the year that I started my blog. Through the past ten months I have learnt so much from blogging, reading blogs and doing my own research into posts. So, I thought I would share them with you.

You Don't Have to Post Things All The Time
When I first got started I would always feel guilty for not posting throughout the week, and it only took me to read one post off someone's blog to realise that I shouldn't feel guilty for not posting, it's my own blog. Now I have a blogging schedule that I am able to commit to and when ever I get a new idea for a post, I make the choice to either schedule it for another time or to squeeze it in to that week

Building a Blog Takes Time
At first I was annoyed how so many bloggers had hundreds upon thousands of followers. However, after reading another blog post, I realised that I have only just started and the bloggers that I was envious of had been at it for years.

Don't Post Something You Aren't Completely Happy With
This is definitely one of the best pieces of advice I have ever been given. When I first created my blog I was so eager to get started that I posted the first thing that popped into my head. I didn't even take pride in it and ended up copying the picture from google. Now however, I take a lot of time taking the photos, editing them and then writing a post that I am completely happy with.

Don't Copy Everyone's Post Ideas
Whenever I used to log into my Bloglovin' account I would always see that someone has written a post on a nail polish (random example) and then feel like I had to write one myself. However, now I sit and think of new and unique ideas for blog posts, write them down and then plan them in my little blog planner. By copyong every bloggers posts you will find that you will get side tracked and end up losing dedication to what you actually started your blog for.

Nothing is Permanent
If you find that you hate your blog design or your blog name or a post that you have done etc. then don't fret. You can always edit and change things. Everything is reversible by a click of a finger.

What have you learnt this year about blogging?

The Body Shop Butters and Scrubs

Now if you have been reading my blog for a while, you may know that I am a massive fan of The Body Shop. In my opinion, there products are of amazing quality and come with a budget friendly price tag. Now if you are a Body Shop fan as much as me, then you will know that once you have dipped your toe into The Body Shop pool, then you will know just how addictive the shop is. It started with a few body mists and a shower gel then progressed to hand creams and an addition to the body mists. Now their body butters and body scrubs are my new found love.

I have always wanted to try their body scrubs and butters, as many people on the internet and who I know personally have raved on and on about them So I decided to jump on the band wagon and give them a go.

After spending what felt like ages sniffing different scents, I finally decided on the Strawberry Body Butter and Olive Body Scrub, they smell divine. I bought the 50ml tubs of each, £5 each,  as I didn't want to spend £13 on something I wasn't sure would be good.

To say I only bought them less than a week ago, I have already used up half of the body scrub and hit the bottom of the body butter, now if that doesn't prove my love for them what will?

The body butter is a thick consistency and soaks into the skin perfectly, not at all what I was expecting. Since I usually use a body lotion, I thought it would be just like those, oily and take a while to soak in. Oh how I was wrong.
The Body Scrub is also slightly thick and exfoliates your skin to perfection, leaving it soft smooth. The olive scent has never appealed to me, I mean who would want to smell like an olive? I wouldn't. However, the scent is absolutely outstanding and is by far one of my favourites. It smells slightly of olive but also has a nutty smell to it too.

The combination of both the body butter and scrub great and leaves my skin silky smooth.

What is your favourite Body Shop scent?

THE CHRISTMAS TAG!

Recently, I have been seeing a lot of Christmas Tag posts and videos come up on my subscription box and since it is only 4 days until Christmas, I thought that I should jump on the band wagon and do the tag myself.

What is your favourite Christmas film?
I am not a big fan of Christmas films, I usually watch the Disney films that are on the TV or watch the DVDs I get for Christmas. However, this year was the first ever time that I have watched the whole of Elf and I love it.

Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Christmas Day... obviously. Santa doesn't come until the night of Christmas Eve. (Jokes. I know Santa isn't real.) I don't see how people could open their presents on Christmas Eve.

Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
Yes. The best Christmas memory was when my uncle and mum went to clink their wine glasses and they smashed over the gravy bowl. One of the funniest moments of my life.

Favourite festive food?
Does the big tubs of sweets you buy at Christmas count? If so, then those. Got to love a massive tub of sweets/chocolate.

Favourite Christmas gift?
I don't really have one. I love every gift I get.

Favourite Christmas scent?
Cinnamon and Gingerbread. Or orangey scents.

Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Nope. For the past two years myself and my sisters have gone out for an indian with my mum and her partner. Does that count?

What tops your tree?
An angel that we have had since I was little.

As a kid what was the one (crazy) gift you always asked for but never received?
Two years a go I asked for a JCB digger to drive to school instead of getting the bus/walking/getting a lift.

What is the best part of Christmas for you?
Waking up super early, sitting with my sisters and then waking my dad up so we can open presents. Eating Christmas dinner is also a good part of the day.

Feel free to use these questions in your Christmas tag and leave a comment on how you celebrate Christmas, I'm intrigued.

Tate.

This new nail polish was just a little freebie with my monthly Glamour magazine and I thought it wouldn't be great. I wasn't really keen on the whole darkish red, but this week I fancied slapping a colour onto my nails, it being the last week of school and all, and I decided on this.

The nail polish is one of a few of the nail polishes from the Glamour and Nails Inc Collaboration and is the perfect ox blood red shade. The formula is thick, but still needs two coats, opaque and glossy, which I love in nail polishes. However, it can slightly chip on the tip of the nail so wear a trust worthy top coat with it.

Tate is by far my favourite autumn/winter/Christmas nail polish; I can't wait to wear it some more in the next couple of months.

Winter Skincare

I don't know about you, but for me when it is winter, my skin becomes a lot more dry than in the Summer. So I thought I would share with you some of my winter moisturisers for face, lips and hands.

Face - Nivea Soft Refreshingly Soft Moisturising Cream
This face cream is amazing at adding a little more moisture to the face and is a great multi purpose product that is great for the face, hands and body. I bought this on a whim as my sister uses it and it was only £1 in home bargains. So far it hasn't disappointed me.

Hands - The Body Shop Hand Cream
I would have never thought that I would fall in love with a hand cream, but I have. The Body Shop hand creams are really good at moisturising your hands and leave an amazing scent behind. I have Glazed Apple (my absolute fave scent) and Frosted Cranberry, sadly these are Christmas editions and are limited stock. I think these hand creams are an absolute winter staple for me and for £3.50 they are an absolute bargain.

Lips - Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm
Again, I bought this product on a whim and it has paid off. I carry this lip balm everywhere with me as I am guaranteed to need it day or night. It adds a subtle pink tint to the lips, but nothing drastic and really hydrates and moisturisers my lips.

What products do you like to use to keep your skin hydrated in the colder months?

Why I Chose a Language at GCSE

When people, in and out of school, ask me why I chose to do a language instead of another subject at GCSE I never know what to say apart from "it was the only other subject I enjoyed at the time." However, now I have had the chance to mull it over in my head and actually realise why the hell I picked to do a language. I do GCSE Spanish and have studied it most my life, from Year 6 to Year 11. I thoroughly enjoy doing Spanish as it give me an insight into a new and different language and culture from around the world. So, I thought I would do a post on the pros and cons of studying any language at GCSE or A Level.

Pros

  • When you go to a country that speaks said language, you will be able to join in conversations and order things off a menu or in shops.
  • It looks good on your CV. In a job interview situation you are more than likely going to get the job if you can speak a different language, especially if you have an A Level or degree in it.
  • Being fluent in a language can mean you going on international business trips and even working overseas.
  • More job opportunities. There are a hell of a load more jobs that include another language for example bi or tri linguists.
  • In some jobs you might get paid more. For businesses that are multinational and have company segments all around the world, you might be employed and given a little extra just because you speak another language.

Cons

  • If you learn the language out of school, the tuition can be expensive.
  • It can be quite challenging learning a whole new language and learning how to pronounce certain things
  • It can be quite draining. Students have enough on their plate without adding on a new language

What language would you like to learn?

Barry M Nail Paints

I am a bit of a nail polish fanatic and love collecting different colours and brands. One of my favourite brands are Barry M as the formula of the polishes are amazing and I would definitely pay more than their £2.99 price tag.The shade selection is incredible, from black to neon pink, and they also have a ton of glitter polishes. I own none polishes in total and everyone is unique:

Silver Multi Glitter
This is exactly what it says on the bottle. The polish consists of small grounded glitters and applies quite thickly. This type of polish is perfect for an accent nail.

 Emerald Green
This shade is a brilliant colour to whack on at Christmas time. It is a deep, sparkly Christmas tree green and looks stunning on the nails.

Diamond Glitter
This glitter polish isn't as chunky as the others in my collections. This polish is great over a block colour as the holographic glitter adds a little glitz to the nails.

Blueberry Ice Cream
This colour is a bright pale blue (how contradicting) and is a perfect summer colour.

Peach Melba
This one of the newbies to my collection as it was gifted to me by one of friends. I haven't had chance to try it out so far, when I get the chance I will more than likely include it in a post.

Mint Green
This one is one of my all time favourites. It is a blue toned mint and is absolutely stunning from spring to summer, especially with Silver Multi Glitter on the ring finger.

Bright Pink
This shade is exactly what it says it is, a bright pink. This shade is awesome in summer, especially with the Pink Silver Glitter on the ring finger.

Pink Silver Glitter
This shade is exactly like the Silver Multi Glitter polish except it is pink, not multi coloured. It is a perfect accent nail polish and adds a little something something to your nails.

Blue Moon
Yet again this is a new addition to my collection. It is a really pale blue with electric blue shimmer running through it. Like I have said about Peach Melba, as soon as I get a chance, I might write a post about them.

What are your favourite Barry M shades?

A Day at the Zoo

On 22nd November, as a birthday present, my mother took me out for the day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, along with her partner and my sisters. The weather wasn't that great but it was overall a good day. Instead of writing, I thought I would just post all the pictures I took on the day. After all, pictures are worth a thousand words. Enjoy...
